Printed books have more effects on the society than televisions do.（反对）

Nowadays, the development of society is progressing at a speed that had never been achieved before, more and more ways for the information to spread have made it possible for people to learn about this world more efficiently than ever. Many people believe that printed books that we read daily have more influences on the society than the televisions we watch because people have various sources for their reading materials. However, I disagree because I think television’s effects are more crucial in a lot of aspects.

There is no denying the fact that books’ influence on the society is large and has lasted for centuries because ever since the invention of paper by the Chinese people, it became more convenient for people to record and pass on the knowledge in every aspect of study. Then people would read the printed books, they could acquire the knowledge and they should use the knowledge for their own benefits. Up until now, books are still the main source of knowledge as well as information that help us to learn about the world, so books should be considered as one of the major source to affect this modern society.

However, television’s influences are much greater than that of the books since people are under the radius of televisions all the time. For example, there are televisions installed in the lobbies of major business buildings, buses, subways, schools, and sometimes even inside the communities’ elevators. These televisions, along with the televisions inside each and every one’s homes have skewed a huge net that covers everyone at all the time. Not only are people influenced by the advertisements on those TVs, they are also quite influenced by other very interesting programs, and most of all, the live news. So this 24-7-365 coverage surely has more effects toward the people living all around the globe.

In conclusion, although books influence continues to have its major impact on the society, its effectiveness does not outweigh that of the televisions because the television covers each part of people’s lives and no matter people want to see the television commercials or shows or not, they are being influenced. That’s why I think television has more influence than books.
